The Attack at the Lustgarten

In the early summer of 1942, a propaganda exhibition, “The Soviet Paradise”, was mounted at the Lustgarten. Propagating racist and anticommunist stereotypes, it was directed against the Soviet enemy. Herbert Baum (1912–1942) and other Communist resistance fighters, nearly all of them Jews, staged an arson attack against this Nazi propaganda action. In retribution, the Nazi authorities arrested and executed the members of the group around Baum as well as many others.
