At the end of the war, the Berlin lawyer Kurt Jakob Ball-Kaduri, a witness to the times, reported: “When a passer-by violated some pedestrian regulation, e.g. by jaywalking or crossing the street while the light was still yellow, he would be stopped. If he was Aryan, he would receive a warning. If he was Jewish, he would be taken away by the police and held overnight, insulted and sometimes physically abused.” This “regulation” was introduced in July/August 1938.
